DFW Urgent Care (Home Of The 30-Minute Guarantee) - Finding Your Perfect Doctor
July 21, 2008 2:02 pmUrgent care facilities are filled with doctors that understand patients’ needs on a case by case basis. They are not to be used as a primary physician by any means and therefore it is very important that you recognize the need to have a primary physician that you stick with. Finding a doctor that you can be comfortable with and that you can rely on is one of the harder things to do, but it isn’t impossible.
The first thing that you need to do is assess your own needs and expectations. Do you need a doctor that is friendly or very professional? Is communication important? Do you need to trust your doctor fully? Do you want them older or younger? Do you feel more comfortable with a male or female doctor? Think about all of these questions as well as any more requirements that you may come up with. It is important that your doctor fits all of your needs in order for you to establish a long-term relationship with them.
Find a doctor that works with your insurance, whatever it may be. This is an obvious one but also something that a lot of people overlook. Another choice that you want to find out about is your prospective doctor’s affiliated hospital. Most doctors are affiliated with certain hospitals and if you have a preference with what hospital you are taken to, this should be one of your considerations.
Lastly, you should always think about location and native language or culture. Location should be important if you don’t want to drive to far or if transportation is a problem. As far as native language and culture are concerned you want to be sure to feel comfortable and without language barriers when you see your doctor. That is why it is always good to choose a doctor that is going to make you feel comfortable and one that you can talk to easily.
Finding yourself a good doctor that you can stay with for an extended period of time can always take a little bit of time and some trial and error. Once you find the doctor that you click with and that you trust, hold onto them and be glad that you found a great doctor.

Patients around the globe are starting to become more and more active in their medical lives. This has been otherwise defined as patient empowerment; when a patient takes an active role in their own disease management. There was a time when patients would only sit back and wait for the doctor to find out what was wrong with them and tell them everything that they needed to do and they’d get better. Today patients are taking a more powerful position in their own health and medical treatments.
There are a few things that distinguish an empowered patient from one that is still depending solely on the doctor to help them with their own medical problems. The first way that you can tell an empowered patient from an otherwise normal one is that they take responsibility, in more ways than one. When faced with a medical problem or challenge these patients gather evidence on their medical problem and all the possible treatments before consulting a doctor. They are also very aware and cautious when it comes to treatments and prescriptions. These patients are what someone might call, “tough customers”, not only do they become well versed in their own medical problems they don’t just follow a doctor’s advice blindly. They are knowledgeable, intelligent, and careful with their own health.
Empowered patients are becoming more and more regular in the medical field today. Doctor’s can start to expect their patients to be more aware of all of their potential outcomes as they come into the office and to be more of a key player in the decision making process.

An easy way to keep yourself healthier than ever before, take a multivitamin daily. This is one of the simpler ways to get a jumpstart on your health each morning as well as taking care of yourself in the long run. In the United States it has been found that 50% of the population has a nutritional deficiency, that’s half.
Your body is supplied nutrients from the meals that you eat and it is entirely possible that you can get all of your recommended daily allowance of nutrients through these meals. Let’s keep in mind though that most people don’t eat the most balanced meals every time during their day. That means that by taking a multivitamin you’re supplementing the nutrients that you get throughout the day, completing your intake of the proper amount.
By keeping your body in balance with nutrients you can avoid a lot of potential health problems. Studies have shown that those people who are taking multivitamins or who are fulfilling their daily requirements for nutrients have less of a chance to develop coronary artery disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer. If you put this together with all the people who aren’t receiving the correct amount of nutrients each day, you can imagine all the extra trips to the doctor or urgent care facility, and the amount of money used on these diseases every year.
The next question that you should be asking is, what multivitamin should I be taking? That is a question that really depends on an individual basis. People have different diets and they receive different amounts of nutrients than others. The first step is to understand what nutrients you are lacking, and then deciding on a few good vitamins to take during breakfast and dinner. It is highly suggested that you don’t use a one-a-day multivitamin; instead, use a few different ones, in the range of 4-6 tablets per day. All of which should be different vitamins targeted to your specific needs. You can speak with your doctor in order to discuss what vitamins would be good to incorporate into your daily routine.

We’ve talked about a few things that you should be doing/keeping track of during the day. Sleeping is another thing that you should be sure to get the proper amounts of. Without a decent night’s sleep your body cannot fully regenerate and won’t function properly the next day. Not only this, but there is another factor that most people don’t even realize. Falling asleep at the same time each night is also beneficial. Your body knows when it is tired and by keeping regular hours to fall asleep at you are more likely to get the right amount of rest that you need while being able to wake up and the proper hour you need to.
Your body’s sleep operates by circadian rhythms and these rhythms are what tell your body to go to sleep, or wake up. That means that if you fall asleep regularly at 9:00pm each night and awake at 6:00 in the morning during the week, that you’re body is going to want to do the same thing each night of the weekend. This is why so many people are tired for work on Monday, because most likely you did not go to sleep at the same time or slept in those days.
Keeping your circadian rhythms working is the key to replenishing your body with sleep properly. Try to stay in sync with your sleeping patterns and you will find yourself more awake and vigorous than ever each day.

There has been a lot of talk about not drinking enough water, and the opposite situation of drinking way too much. How much is enough and why should we be drinking all of these fluids are two of the main questions people are asking.
Eight 8oz. glasses of water is what you should be ingesting every day. Now take into account that your body receives fluids from food and other beverages during the day. Still, the best way to receive these fluids is through pure water. Our bodies are made up of 60% water, and all this water is used in many different processes within the body. Replenishing this water is important to keeping our body functioning properly. Circulation, digestion, absorption of nutrients, and transmission of electrical currents (our nerves) are all involved with the water that is in our bodies.
So you can see why having the proper amount of water within the body is important every day. Not only that, but water helps your body in general with aches and pains, and a generally improved sense of health.
That doesn’t mean that you should keep water on you everywhere you go, or that you have to constantly be drinking water. As I said above, a portion of the water you need every day comes from food and other beverages, leaving you with less than eight 8oz glasses to drink. Try to drink a glass of water with your meals or anytime that you are feeling parched for a drink. Instead of picking up that soda you can turn to a healthier alternative. Keeping your body healthy will only help you in the long run with your overall health.

Being physically active is something that a lot of people don’t get around to these days. A lot of it has to do with being just “too busy” to get out to the gym or play a sport. Most people generate a lot of excuse for being unable to just, get up and do but there really is no excuse for it. There are plenty of different ways to say active and be active every day, and it is important that you do.
One way of staying active would be to find something that you enjoy doing and instead of going to the gym, which many people find boring or tedious, you can do that enjoyable activity instead. Things like sports, dancing, or just taking your dog out for a long walk can be ways to keep active. Speaking of walking, it is one of the best things that someone can do for themselves each day. Not only has it been proven that people who walk 20 minutes a day for five days a week improve their flexibility and balance, but they are also more positive and energetic.
Keeping the walking theme in mind, hiking is also another great way to stay active. If you have any parks or trails near your house then they are just calling for you to walk on them. Not only do you get the satisfaction of walking and being active / healthy you are also able to enjoy the beauty of nature. There are so many variations of a hike that you want to be sure that you are choosing a hike that will be right for you, nothing too hard and nothing that doesn’t challenge you at all. Most people can’t get out to the park / trails every day, so plan on hiking during the weekend for an extended period of time.
Taking a class at your local gym can also be a good motivator for you to get out there. Yoga, pilates, and many others will be a good workout without having to run on a treadmill or use weights.
Hopefully, you can use a few of these suggestions in order to start being more active in your daily life. Each isn’t hard to accomplish and there should be no excuse for not being active at all during a day. These practices will help your body stay healthy and keep you out of the doctor’s office and any urgent care facility.

I wanted to go explain a little more thoroughly the reasons for some of the health tips in the previous post. Not only in order to show you why they are important but so that you can also understand how improving your health and doing these things causes overall benefits each day to your attitude, behavior, and body function.
The two pieces of advice that I gave were to eat a healthy breakfast and to eat fruits and vegetables regularly. These two things are really actually quite beneficial to do for the following reasons. One, those who don’t eat breakfast usually find themselves eating sugary pastries or coffee instead, or just skipping breakfast altogether. Now, although it saves time and most people feel like they can go without breakfast it is a good idea to start including it in your daily routine. People who eat breakfast are indirectly lowering their cholesterol; their bodies receive fiber that is within the meal. This and the fact that those people that don’t eat breakfast go for 10-16 hours without any outside source of energy. Our bodies start to function differently throughout the day because of this. Not only does it shift into a mode of starvation, which changes blood sugar regulation and increases appetite, but we start to crave fatty foods and then binge later on in the day. As you can see, a skipped breakfast is just like you telling your body to become unhealthy for the day on purpose. A well-balanced breakfast is going to give you the energy that you lack during the day as well as keep your body functioning properly.
The second item was fruits and vegetables. You’ve always heard your parents telling you to eat your fruits and vegetables and although the only reason they were telling you is the overall knowing that vegetables are good there really is a great reason why this is important. They are filled with nutrients that are vital for your body to function well. Fruits and vegetables that are darker in color tend to have more nutrients then those that are lighter in color, with each different color giving you a different type of nutrient.
Each day you should try to focus on eating more fruits and vegetables in your meals and for snacks and such. Adding these things into your everyday eating habits is going to help your overall health in many ways. As I said above each different color gives you a different nutrient, so keeping a mixture of color each day can help you with many different parts of your health. I will use another post to go over each of the colors and their potential benefits to your health.
The overall message that readers should hope to receive from this post is that skipping breakfast and your fruits/vegetables each day can really hinder your performance throughout the day and keep your body from receiving the nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

We’ve been talking about emergency care and urgent care for a long time and the differences between the two. Everything we’ve been talking about has to do with restoring your health and repairing your body and we really should be talking about how to keep you body healthy and things that are beneficial to your health before you have to go into the urgent care facility. From here on out I want to talk about what you can do in order to preserve your health and make sure that you don’t have to visit the urgent care center for things that could have been prevented by better health. Granted, there are going to be those cases where an accident couldn’t be avoided and just happens.
There are many, many different things that can happen to someone on a daily basis that they have to visit the urgent care facility for and even more things that could result in a visit to the emergency room. We want to keep these things to a minimum, where you only have to come into an urgent care facility for minor situations like a laceration or something similar. That is why taking care of your body and health is going to keep you from going to these facilities more often than not. Not only is that good for your health and attitude but it is also good for your wallet.
Who doesn’t want to feel more energized, in a better mood, and have overall better health? The only downside to having good health is that you have to work for it. It is much easier to let yourself go and not put forth much effort to watch your health. Like all good things, there has to be some effort in order to maintain that good thing. There are many varying degrees of the things that you can do to help and raise your health. Some are harder to keep in your daily routine, some are easy to keep track of and if you only know about them could be implemented easily into your life. The plan is to give you all different kinds of things that you could do, easy and harder, and let you make the decision of which to take in.

Urgent care is generally overlooked as a medical option when most people are in need. Not only is it overlooked it is generally not used as much as it could be. There are still those who don’t understand the full potential of urgent care centers or walk-in clinics. Having these facilities located across the nation in various malls and populated areas helps hospitals, doctors, and most of all the patients themselves. Finding out everything you can about urgent care centers is going to educate you on a medical source that you may not have known about. There are also the benefits of being able to now use this source in your life when it is needed without having to go to a hospital or waiting for the doctor. The small gap that was in that medical field was filled long ago with urgent care centers.
There have been many people whose health has been improved by the fact that they can go to an urgent care center and receive treatment for minor symptoms and illnesses. The availability of urgent care centers is really what makes them such an awesome asset to have in your community. Their hours are usually comparable to an emergency room and they are only closed overnight.
Going to an urgent care center is far more practical than going to an emergency room in most cases. That is why it is time to spread the word and let everyone know that these facilities are out there and ready to be used by anyone at anytime. There really is no one that is turned down and you should freely use urgent care centers so that you can receive medical attention whenever you need it.
Try going to a local urgent care center today and asking for information if you want to know more. They will be more than happy to answer any questions for you and give you as much information as possible. Urgent care centers are growing and being erected all over the country so it is time that you learned exactly what they can do to help you.
